Unfortunately, despite my fondest wishes, we did not escape the common childhood plague, and one of our girls has lice. So far, only one of us has any signs, but I know that this is just the beginning of our 2011: Louse Odyssey.
Keep your fingers crossed for us, please!
UPDATE: found nits in Lucy’s hair this morning. Sigh. Two down…..

I’ll surely do that…and say a little prayer also!
Thanks, Jeanne!
Jackie,
I am so sorry you are going through this. My family went through it in 2009, and I wound up writing an article about it for a now-defunct women’s magazine (Cookie). On my portfolio website you can find the links to both of the articles, as PDF downloads (since the magazine’s website was closed).
The link is: http://www.textislepatchwork.com/Writing.html
I based my articles on CDC, Harvard School of Public Health, and American Pediatrics Association recommendations, because they are the only organizations with large enough sample sizes when they’ve researched how best to get rid of the critters. My unsolicited advice is to decide on a game plan that you feel best about, and that is most realistic for you, and avoid spending a lot of time googling ideas about this because you’ll just tire yourself out and freak yourself out.
Like Jeanne, I will be sending your family good vibes and prayers.
Best,
Becky Wolsk, your bud from twittah (@goalsgamified)
Becky, thanks so much for the info–we bought the Lice Meister comb this morning and have smothered their heads in conditioner, put shower caps on them, and will comb out later today. I think we will have them wear shower caps tonight again, with conditioner, and comb out in the morning, plus again at night and probably several times daily for the next week. I think you’re right about overload too–everyone on the Internet had so many opinions about lice!
I advise Nix (not Rid, and certainly not Lindane, just Nix) and daily nitpicking for the whole house. Hours and hours of daily nitpicking until the second treatment. Then weekly for a couple of weeks.
Nitpicking–just the way I wanted to spend my December! Thanks for the support
Sorry. It does end … eventually.
